Northgate Mall has been a shopping landmark in Durham, N.C. for nearly 50 many years. Created in 1960.

Northgate was initially integrated 1960 by W. Kenan Rand Jr., Northgate unsealed its doors to Durham as a strip center with Colonial Store Supermarket and Roses. In 1974, Northgate enclosed the center converting it into the interior shopping site known as the Mall. Anchor shops in those days included Sears and Thalhimers. The grocery store became a huge celebrity and unsealed on a new site on imagine path that was later called "The stores at Northgate."
"The Shops at Northgate" is the house of anchor stores including Guitar Center, and C&H Cafeteria. In 1986, another portion of the shopping center ended up being built, along side a fresh multi degree parking deck. 1987 saw yet another part of the Mall built including current Food Gallery and reduced level Business Center. In 2006, Macy's emporium bought Hecht's and at this time resides among Northgate's primary manner anchors.
In 2005, Northgate's 45th birthday celebration was celebrated out-of-doors in the Plaza location during the multi-million dollar Plaza construc
