Downtown Hendersonville has got the 2nd biggest downtown area in western new york (Asheville's could be the biggest) with several things to do, see and taste. Breathtaking principal Street serpentines through the commerical strip with planter containers and lush gardening. With over 100 stores and virtually 20 restaurants, this downtown is geared to tourists with several gift stores with knick-knacks and antique stores.
Hendersonville's downtown is a component for the principal Street plan, the National Trust for Historic Preservation's system to rejuvenate the nation's main company areas through historic preservation, focus on downtown design, thoughtful recruitment of appropriate businesses, and marketing regarding the downtown region.
A lot of the stores are observed on a five block element of Main Street. Mast General shop, constantly a popular end, is on one end as well as the Courthouse is on the other side. We particularly enjoy visiting the Silver Fox Gallery with a lot of local art and the Colorful home using their Fiesta china and enamelware collections.
Make sure to break for a few sweets during the traditional McFarlan Bakery, a fixture here since 1930. And check out Mezzaluna Brick Oven & Tap House at 226 North Main Street. The Curb Farmers Market has been going strong since 1924 along with its selection of cooked goods, handmade crafts, jams, etc on Tuesdays, Thursday and Saturdays.
Another great stop may be the Mineral & Lapidary Museum of Henderson County. It features displays from new york, replicas of world famous diamonds, English minerals, Indian artifacts, a dinosaur egg nest, fossils, fluorescent nutrients, treasures, and faceted nutrients. The museum's niche are Geodes, that are sold, cracked and/or displayed. On the job! kids' museum offers an affordable, educational and fun method to spend the time along with your young ones, grandchildren, and students many years 1-10.
cannot stress out looking to get among no-cost parking places on Main Street. Discover loads of parking along parallel roads one block on either side of principal Street as well as the customer Center (201 South principal).
Just beyond downtown Hendersonville is a popular angel. Author Thomas Wolfe’s very first book ended up being search Homeward, Angel. When you look at the guide you will find continual sources to an angel statue created from Italian marble. This is basically the angel Wolfe positioned in American literature. Thomas Wolfe’s father, W.O. Wolfe, sold the statue into Johnson family members to mark your family land in Oakdale Cemetery. The angel is keeping a lily in her left hand and expanding the woman right-hand upward. Oakdale Cemetery is located on United States Highway 64 West, simply a quick length from downtown.
This is apple nation! In belated summer time and fall (August through early November), visit many orchards and take-home a large selection of apples, pumpkins plus! Most are found along United States Highway 64 East toward Chimney Rock. See our Apple Orchard Guide.
